"Ask the concierges, they know everything"; these words are so often heard by every concierge whether in the valley or across the state. For this reason, the concierges in the greater Phoenix/Scottsdale area realized their need to pool their knowledge and resources to meet the requests they encounter every day.

 

In the summer of 1985, the Concierge Desk was a new concept in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. At that time, a dozen or so hotel and resort concierges banded together to form a non-profit group from which they could network experiences and ideas for the visiting travelers. The group's original mission statement stated was "To promote friendship and a working relationship among members and to develop the professionalism of the concierge. To exchange ideas, information and resolve mutual problems. To create a better understanding of the concierge and develop more cooperation among valley businesses and cultural organizations. To promote in every way the interest and welfare of the travel industry employee. To develop better service for our guests through mutual cooperation among members and valley businesses."

 

By 1987, the Concierge Network had members from 19 hotels/resorts. Through the years, this small non-profit group has evolved into a very closely-knit travel industry family; doing philanthropic work in the community, promoting the local hotel and resort properties, sharing news and knowledge, and mentoring concierges embarking on their new careers. Today, there are still some of the original members actively participating in a network that now numbers over 23 hotel/resort properties and over 50 members.
